Hafton Castle

The Castle

Hafton Castle is a magnificent building located in Hunter’s Quay, just outside Dunoon with views across Holy Loch.   The Castle is set in its own delightful gardens with ample parking space. It has a large heated indoor swimming pool measuring 50 by 33 feet (Please note there is a rental charge of £500 for the use of the swimming pool) Any additional charges for the heating of the pool after your arrival will depend on usage.

Hafton Castle is a superb house with its wonderful indoor pool, and numerous spacious public rooms. There is a  large reception hall, dining room, large drawing room with bar area which opens into a small drawing room, library,  snooker room with table tennis and table football spacious conservatory and lots of outdoor space with a terrace and gardens, in fact plenty of space for the large number of people it sleeps.  The splendid reception hall has numerous seats, and a grand piano and is the perfect place for a wedding ceremony.  The nineteen bedrooms are comfortable and all have en-suite showers. The Castle sleeps up to a maximum of 42 persons, including children and babies.

The Castle was built by James Hunter, and its architect was David Hamilton who also designed Dunoon Castle. The building has some magnificent features, beautiful ceilings, carved doors and a superb staircase.

The large drawing room with bar area opens into the small drawing room to make one very large room which is perfect for Wedding Receptions, parties or any other gathering. Music can be arranged for any evening of your stay, classical, traditional Scottish music or a ceilidh.

Outside in the gardens are old trees, lawns and beautiful views across the Loch. Red deer can often be seen in the gardens. The Castle is very accessible and can be reached from Glasgow Airport in approximately 45 minutes by car and guests usually arrive via the ferry which departs from Gourock and crosses the Firth of Clyde, a very romantic and atmospheric start to their stay at Hafton.  There are many local activities, golf, swimming, clay pigeon shooting, sailing, fishing and quad biking to name but a few.  Dunoon itself is the home of the Cowal Highland Gathering and has a castle and museum.  Day trips can be taken to the Benmore Botanical Gardens, Ardinglas Woodland Gardens, Argyll Forest Park, Inverary, Tignabruich and Bute and Wemyss Bay.
